Trader sues Tesco over non-halal chicken Share

PENANG – A trader and four of his family members today filed a suit against Tesco Stores (M) Sdn Bhd claiming negligence on the part of the hypermart operator in ensuring that the fresh chicken labelled halal which he bought in March was indeed halal according to Islam.

Raja Muzaffar Kamar Raja Busu, Lijah Awang Kechik, Raja Kamar Idris Raja Busu, Norhayati Abdullah and Raja Teh Rahmah Raja Busu filed the suit through lawyer Kamal Razali of Badruzzaman & Kamal at the High Court Registrar's Office here.

Product served to customers as well

In their statement of claim, Raja Muzaffar Kamar said he and the four plaintiffs were traumatised by the fact that they had consumed non-halal chicken products and had served the said product to clients in his restaurant in Astaka Gelugor here.Raja Muzaffar Kamar, representing the plaintiffs, is seeking RM1mil in general damages, RM500,000 in exemplary damages and RM100,000 in aggravated damages.
He is also seeking an open apology from the defendant.When contacted this evening, Bernama quoted Kamal as saying the suit had yet to be served on the defendant
