SUNGAI PETANI: Kedah MIC Youth chief Thiaggu @ Thiagarajan Letchumanan, 33, today relinquished the post that he had held for eight months, citing disenchantment with the leadership of state MIC liaison chairman S Ananthan. He claimed that his efforts to discuss with the national leadership several matters which needed immediate action had met a dead end.
He cited seven reasons for his resignation, the main one being his loss of confidence in the leadership of Ananthan who he claimed had interfered in the affairs of the Kedah MIC Youth, including sabotaging its meetings. He, however, told a news conference here that he would not abandon the MIC's struggle because the party was the only platform that could be trusted to fight for the Indian community.Asked whether his resignation was linked to the actions of parties challenging party president S Samy Vellu to step down, he said there should be a clean-up of leaders whom the people did not like at all levels. In KULIM, Ananthan described Thiagarajan's resignation as appropriate and timely.
In a statement sent via the an SMS, Ananthan said the move taken by Thiagarajan after being appointed to the post for eight months clearly showed that he had created various conflicts within the divisional Youth chiefs in Kedah."Thiagarajan did not get the support of the Youth chiefs and this made it easier for the state MIC to find a more suitable Youth leader in view of the latest development in the party," he said.
Ananthan said he regretted the move by Thiagarajan in making a press statement criticising Samy Vellu's leadership.
