SEPANG: Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said he was confident the 18 Malaysian volunteers who took part in the humanitarian aid mission to Gaza last week were ready to testify about Israel's actions against their peace flotilla before the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague.
"If there is need for that purpose, I'm sure that they will be ready to testify to prove the crimes [committed by the Israelis]," he said after welcoming home the six Malaysian volunteers who had been on board the MV Rachel Corrie, which was seized by Israeli naval forces off Gaza on Saturday, at the KL Interational Airport, here today. He also expressed his gratitude that all were able to return home safe and sound.
The six -- Parit MP Mohd Nizar Zakaria, Perdana Global Peace Organisation members Shamsul Akmar Musa Kamal, Matthias Chang and Ahmad Faizal Azumu, and media representatives Halim Mohamed and Mohd Jufri Judin of TV3 -- had flown in from Amman by a Royal Jordanian flight. They had been released by the Israeli authorities yesterday.PGPO, a non-governmental organisation in Malaysia, had sponsored the aid mission to Israel-blockaded Gaza.
Days earlier, 12 Malaysians who were among several activists on board another aid ship, the Turkish Mavi Marmara, were also detained by the Israeli forces after they stormed the vessel in a violent and bloody attack which left nine Turkish activists dead. The 12 Malaysians returned to Malaysia early yesterday.
