Gerakan Anti-Samy Vellu (GAS) is gearing up to release its 30-minute VCD on why the MIC head must step down sooner than he intends.Sacked MIC Youth deputy head leader and central working committee member V Mugilan (far right in pix) said editing of the footage has been completed.“The VCDs will be distributed next week, in conjunction with the next GAS gathering,” he said in Kuala Lumpur today. Thousands of copies of the VCD – in Tamil and English – are to be distributed nationwide, targetting the Indian community in particular.
The contents will highlight the alleged failures of MIC head S Samy Vellu and explain why he should relinquish the post of party president which he has held since 1979.In addition, GAS will distribute 500,000 copies of anti-Samy posters nationwide from tomorrow. Former MIC central working committee member KP Samy - who has also been sacked from MIC - said the gathering billed as 'GAS 2' will be held on July 4 at the Dewan Hamzah in Klang. The gathering will be conducted as a public forum, themed 'Dawn for the Indian community'.“Members of public and NGOs will be given the opportunity to address key problems faced by the Indian community and to decide on (the future of) GAS. They can also expect the presence of key leaders of the Hindu Rights Action Force,” KP Samy said without naming anyone in particular.Asked about a threat by MIC leaders to prevent the gathering, he reiterated: “We will not retaliate if there are attacks by MIC members, but will adopt (Mahatma) Gandhi's principle of ahimsa (non-violence).”
Decision for participants
Apart from Mugilan and KP Samy, the MIC has also expelled G Kumar Amaan, and Petaling Jaya division veteran V Subramaniam without a disciplinary hearing for demanding the resignation of Samy Vellu. The four will allow forum participants to make one of two decisions. The first is whether GAS should work within MIC if those sacked are reinstated on appeal. If not accepted back into MIC, participants will decide if the four should join an opposition party or just retire. The first gathering, held on May 30 in Serdang, had seen a lower-than-expected turnout, but was still hailed as a successful event.
