The Home Ministry is expected to table amendments to the Internal Security Act 1960 (ISA) and two other acts in Dewan Rakyat next month.Deputy Home Minister Abu Seman Yusop said the two acts are the Dangerous Drugs Act (Special Preventive Measures) 1985 and Emergency Ordinance (Public Order and Prevention of Crime) 1969.
"The amended draft has been sent to the Attorney-General's department for approval and once approved, it will be tabled in Parliament," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
He added that three other acts, Restricted Residence Act 1933, Banishment Act 1959 and Crime Prevention Act 1959, were currently being reviewed.In March, the cabinet approved amendments to the Internal Security Act (ISA) and six related laws to ensure a comprehensive change in dealing with security issues in the country.Abu Seman said the ISA would be streamlined with current circumstances, namely ministerial powers, duration of detention, police power, rights and treatment of detainees and abolishment of several sections of the Act.He added that the amendments to the Acts were done with consultation from 13 non-governmental organisations and prominent individuals.
