Samy will not be target of next GAS attack rally, says organiser

Gerakan Anti-Samy Vellu (GAS) or the anti-Samy Vellu movement will hold off all attacks on MIC president Datuk Seri Samy Vellu until the next planned rally in Klang on June 13. K.P. Samy said he is the chairman of GAS’s rally in Klang but refused to speculate on the possible turnout.“Don’t ask about the crowd, we are small boys... but come and see on that day and judge for yourself. According to the president (Datuk Seri Samy Vellu), we are small boys, small town, and small people.
That day will decide where we stand.“The rally will be totally different. We have decided not to touch our president anymore, we will not talk about Datuk Seri Samy Vellu anymore but we will tell you on that day what the message is going to be. So Datuk Samy Vellu can sleep well, we are not going to touch him,” he told reporters at a press conference here.

GAS’s first rally suffered a major setback when the turnout was fewer than 3,000 after organisers had expected 15,000 people to attend. He said that the June 13 rally will send a strong message to Samy Vellu and prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.“This will be a very serious message. We have three options to either stay and fight within the party provided that we are reinstated; or if we are expelled, to stay and expect a change and fight for BN or look for someone who can give the best and promise to take care of the Indian community.“June 13 is the day to let him decide, not only him but also the prime minister,” he said.

However, Samy stopped short of saying that he would leave Barisan Nasional (BN) if their demands are not met.Samy added that he has not yet decided if he would appeal against his expulsion from the party.
“If I appeal and the appeal gets rejected then what will happen to my political career? I am currently consulting with my close friends, including my lawyer, about what my next move should be. I need to know what are the pros and cons.“I feel that we are qualified to be reinstated. We never did any harm to the party or Barisan Nasional. In Hulu Selangor, I gained back 90 percent of the Indian votes by admitting that we were wrong. By admitting that MIC and BN was wrong, we won the heart of the voters,” he said.
MIC Youth deputy chief V. Mugilan was expelled by party president for speaking out against him, and two other MIC members, both with the central working committee, G. Kumar Aamaan and Samy, were sacked as well.MIC secretary-general S. Murugesan was subsequently expelled after he disagreed with the sackings.Samy also criticized Najib’s appointment of MIC deputy president Senator Datuk G. Palanivel as the Deputy Plantations Industry and Commodities Minister.“If you (Samy Vellu) are sincere about handing over the party to Palanivel then why don’t you ask MIC vice president Datuk Subramaniam to demote himself as the deputy and promote Palanivel as a Cabinet minister. This will indicate that you are sincere and want to strengthen the party. This indicates that you want to hand over the party to Palanivel. I do not know how PM can accept Samy’s proposal,” he said.He added that Palanivel’s appointment as deputy is a sign that Samy Vellu wants to sideline the deputy president in the coming party election.

Samy also admitted that the organization was still struggling to pay the rent for the previous convention centre.“We are poor, we are struggling to pay for the hall. They said Umno is pumping money into GAS but we have to pay by installments. We are weak. We are poor. We can’t even buy mineral water for the participants and VIPs,” he said. The first rally was held at the Mines Convention Centre after it was switched from the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).He also confirmed that he will be filing a defamation suit against Selangor information chief S. Subramaniam for RM2 million and newspaper Tamil Nesan for RM5 million for “character’ and “political” assassination.
