Former MIC leaders V Mugilan and G Kumar Amman are taking issue with Tamil Nesan Daily for reporting his Gerakan Anti-Samy Vellu (GAS) movement as the “MIC Anti Group” on the front page, with pictures of the duo crossed out.In a joint press statement today, Mugilan (left) stressed that they were against only “the individual and his outmoded leadership, not the party which we are still very (much) part and proud of.”
He stated that the two of them still had faith that the Central Working Committee (CWC) would consider their appeal to be reinstated in an unbiased manner. He accused the paper of trying to “cast aspersions and disparage our noble cause,” with their front page article on June 5, adding that their expulsion was not done in accordance with the MIC constitution.Mugilan, former MIC Youth deputy chief , maintained that their criticisms of party president S Samy Vellu were made “for the greater good of the party and the community.”
He accused the daily of trying to confuse party members with the slur, and stated that they will be filing a defamation suit against the newspaper.Mugilan had launched the GAS attack on the MIC president last month, culminating in a public rally on May 30 to call for his resignation. The movement has since run out of gas, with Mugilan submitting an appeal against his sacking from the party to the CWC.
