Two new members of Parliament were sworn in today as the Dewan Rakyat resumed its second season and 12th sitting of the year today. Hulu Selangor's P Kalamanathan (BN) and Sibu's Wong Ho Leng (DAP) took their oaths before Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia.
Kamalanathan, 44, a public relations manager for Serba Wangi Sdn Bhd, beat PKR's Zaid Ibrahim by 1,725 votes in the April by-election. Approached by reporters at the Parliament lobby today, Kamalanathan (left), who was accompanied by his wife S Shobana, said that he is well-prepared for new challenges ahead.
"I have already submitted 10 questions to Parliament. The first question will be in the order paper tomorrow on workers' welfare in plantations," he said. Wong (right), 51, is Sarawak state assembly representative for Bukit Assek and Sarawak DAP chairperson. The opposition leader in the state assembly defeated BN's Robert Lau Hui Yew by 398 votes on May 16.
