Mugilan: GAS will be a new beginning for Indians

PETALING JAYA: The Gerakan Anti Samy Vellu (GAS) gathering scheduled tomorrow at The Mines Convention Centre in Seri Kembangan would be the first step towards a new beginning for the Indian community in the country, said former MIC Youth chief V Mugilan.

Mugilan who initiated GAS said he and three of his colleagues who started the movement had laid the path for change but the desired changes can only take place if the Indian community was ready to come out and show their stand at 2pm tomorrow.

"Tomorrow is the deciding day to adopt changes. This is not my struggle and not that of those stripped of their positions but this is the struggle of all Indians.
"If the attendance is big, it will be a clear signal that MIC president S Samy Vellu must go. If there is no crowd, I will say Samy Vellu will remain in his seat as MIC president," he told reporters in the presence of sacked MIC central working committee (CWC) members KP Samy, G Kumar Amaan
and former Petaling Jaya MIC division chief V Subramaniam or Barat Maniam.

Mugilan said right now the Indian community is confused and uncertain as to which was important -- Samy Vellu or the struggle for Indians.
As such, the people must be briefed on the conflict and resolved to be present at the GAS gathering, so that MIC as a party would return to the right track and the position of the Indians, restored.

"The success or failure of the gathering tomorrow rests with the Indian community. We have only set up a platform for the Indians in the country to express their views and opinions. If the Indians do not want change, we cannot do anything," he said.

Barat Maniam said Indians, especially party members, should attend the gathering to send a message to the MIC president that “we a democratic country and that we want democracy”.

"Since Samy Vellu took over the helm of MIC in 1979, I believe democracy in MIC had died. So, the gathering will be the right forum to revive democracy in MIC," he said.
