Rival piles pressure on Samy to quit now

May 20, 2010
KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 — Former Petaling Jaya MIC division chief V Subramaniam added pressure on party president Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu today alleging malpractices in Maika Holdings and in MIED, the party’s education arm, involving millions of ringgit.
He gave details, bank records and affidavits to back his claim that cheating and malpractices took place during Samy Vellu’s tenure.
Subramaniam, more popularly known as Bharat Maniam, urged Samy Vellu to step down immediately as party president and hand over power to Datuk G Palanivel, the deputy president.

“This is a historic moment. Samy must go now,” he told reporters here today.
He also urged Palanivel to also speak up and ask Samy Vellu, who has been party president since 1979, to quit.
Subramaniam is the latest MIC man to pressure Malaysia’s longest serving party president to quit.
Samy Vellu (picture) said this week that he planned to quit only next year, sparking a furore among MIC leaders who want him to exit the scene immediately.
Subramaniam’s allegations against Samy Vellu today had been previously investigated by the MACC and police. Both agencies have not made public the outcome of their investigations.
However in one case, the MACC had charged former MIED CEO Chitrakala Vasu with cheating RM4 million. Subramanim also lambasted Samy Vellu for sacking him from the party’s central working committee.
He accused Samy Vellu and his son Vell Paari for mismanaging Maika Holdings. He urged father and son to apologise for the failure of Maika Holdings. “The Indian community entrusted him with rm106 million in cash and Samy Vellu and his son, who managed Maika Holdings, have to answer for it. They cannot run away,” Subramaniam said.
