Six Perak PKR state branch youth chiefs have exposed an alleged Umno plot to buy them over, revealed state youth chief Abdul Yunus Jamahri today. He said they had been targeted between March and May 2010.
The six party branch youth chiefs- Abdul Jamil Abdul Halim (Sungai Siput), Yahya Sijari (Bagan Datoh), Mohd Uzaimi Mohd Yusof (Grik), Mohd Yusri Yaacob (Lumut), Azzemi Adnan (Tapah) and M Manichalvan ( former Beruas chief) allegedly received such phone calls and SMS from former Parit branch youth chief Faizal Effendi Hashim.Abdul Jamil said Faizal in a phone call on May 18, had urged him to resign from the party for monetary gains and even promised to arrange a meeting with former PKR Youth chief Ezam Mohd Nor (right) and Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir.
On the same day, Yahya allegedly received an SMS from Faizal saying that if he resigned, Yahya could lead an easy lifestyle. The others also said Faizal had made similar offers to them.
The six PKR members were told to attend a briefing meeting organised by Faizal on May 22 but but instead chose to take their cases to their chief.
'Attempts to tarnish party'
According to PKR deputy youth chief Chan Ming Kai who was also at the party media conference today at state party headquarters, these attempts were to tarnish the name of the party, ahead of its national meet at Kota Baru this week.Chan believes that Faizal may make a media statement tomorrow that he is quitting the party and the state party is taking action to discourage other members from doing the same.
Chan asserted: "The common stand among such crossovers is that they are unhappy with the state leadership but in fact they are quitting because of personal interest and monetary gain."Yunus said that a report on the alleged misconduct of Faizal acting against party interests has been forwarded to headquarters for further action. The crossover trend in Perak started when two former Pakatan executive councillors Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi ( Behrang assemblyperson) and Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu (Changat Jering) together with former DAP Jelapang assemblyperson Hee Yit Foong (left), resigned from their respective parties to become independents friendly to BN.This crossover triggered the collapse of the 10 month-old Pakatan rule of Perak and BN taking over.
