MIC crisis an opportunity for PAS

KUALA LUMPUR: The ongoing crisis in MIC has turned into an opportunity for the PAS Supporters Club, which has stepped in to invite disgruntled members to join it.
The club's deputy president, N Balasubramaniam, said in keeping with the party’s slogan of “PAS For All”, he was inviting Indians to join the group.“At least, here (in PAS) you know what you’re in for. The party respects all communities and this is most evident when the PAS central council agreed to upgrade the supporters club to be equal in stature to its other wing.

“Even if we have a misunderstanding, we can now refer to the president (Abdul Hadi Awang) and the PAS leadership will deal with it in a fair manner as spelt out in Islam,” he said.
Alluding to the ongoing strife within MIC and its stormy ties with Umno, Balasubramaniam said there was unlikely to be an early solution to the crisis.“The way we see it MIC is losing its relevance in the community. Whether (S) Samy Vellu stays on or not, what is the benefit to the Indian community?” he asked.
Citing his own experience, he said Islam as spoken by PAS is different from that which Umno-Barisan Nasional practises.“PAS has not marginalised any race. In fact, it has been inclusive,” he said, adding that in reality there was no reason for PAS to open its doors to non-Muslims as it was the largest Muslim organisation in the country. He was responding to Cheras Umno division chief Syed Ali Alhabshee who had reportedly said that PAS was forced to beg for non-Muslim support when setting up the PAS Supporters Club.
“That’s his perspective. The fact is that we believe in the justice and fairness practised by PAS. The party has been around for a long time and the club did not happen overnight.“Many Indians are tired of MIC and Umno and the latter's treatment of the non-Malays. We’re inviting all who are frustrated with MIC to join PAS,” he said.
