PUTRAJAYA - After working late - at other jobs - some civil servants take a day off and then report back to work with a fake medical chit (MC).Cuepacs president Omar Osman alleged that these fake MCs were sold by certain syndicates, who duplicated the chits of government hospitals and sold them to the so-called sick civil servants.Among the hospitals that have become the 'victims' are the Kuala Lumpur Hospital, the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Hospital and the Putrajaya Hospital.
Cuepacs claimed about 36,000 MCs submitted by civil servants have been found to be fakes so far although they bear the logos and addresses of legitimate hospitals.
Non-existent doctors
“We have been receiving complaints from government agencies and when we checked with these hospitals, the doctors who purportedly signed these MCs did not exist,” Omar told reporters after paying a courtesy call on Road Transport Department director-general Solah Mat Hassan here on Monday.
He said some civil servants were found to be doing part-time jobs after their normal working hours.
“Some of them work until 2am or 3am and when they feel too tired they just buy one of these MCs and submit them to their department,” he said.
Omar warned that such civil servants could lose their job if there was evidence to show they had submitted fake MCs.“They will be referred to the disciplinary board and risk losing their pension money.
Preventing a worrying trend
“We hope to make them more aware of this before such cases become a worrying trend,” he said.
He hoped government agencies would allow Cuepacs to provide counselling to these civil servants before taking action against them.“We will give them counselling and advice but if they continue to do so, we will let their employers take action against them,” he said
