Mugilan vows to continue pressuring Samy Vellu

S PathmawathyMay 21, 103:00pm
Expelled MIC Youth deputy chief V Mugilan will continue pushing for the resignation of party president S Samy Vellu, who threw Mugilan out of the party yesterday for "disparaging" his leadership.Mugilan was axed by Samy Vellu for demanding the veteran leader to step down immediately, rather than wait until September 2011, as he had pledged previously."I got a one page letter around 10pm yesterday, signed by Samy Vellu himself. I will file an appeal to the central working committee (CWC) on Monday," Mugilan told Malaysiakini.Mugilan, who will hold a press conference in Petaling Jaya tomorrow to rebut the grounds of his expulsion, is also expected to "reveal something big".In the expulsion letter, Samy Vellu (left) cited Mugilan for contravening provisions of the party constitution.
An excerpt from the letter, forwarded to Malaysiakini via text message, states:"You have contravened Article 14.2.1 of the Constitution and completely ignored the provisions of Article 58(2) which provides that the President "shall hold office for three years... you have also cast aspersions upon my character and disparaged me in my office as President. "You have thereby contravened the principles of the Congress and acted in a manner detrimental to the interests of the Congress."I have therefore in consultation with the Deputy President decided to expel you from the Congress with immediate effect pursuant to Article 61.2 of the Constitution."You may appeal in writing against my decision to the Central Working Committee within 14 days of the receipt of this notification."
Incapable leader
In a rather unusual development, Mugilan had admonished Samy Vellu for being a liability to the Barisan Nasional and an incapable leader.Samy Vellu, who has maintained a tight rein on the party's presidency for the past 31 years, had earlier warned that Mugilan would be referred to the disciplinary committee for working against the party's interest in the run-up to last month's Hulu Selangor by-election.However, Samy Vellu changed his mind a day later, and exercised his presidential power to summarily dismiss Mugilan without putting him through the long-winded disciplinary process.
