GAS to release VCD on why Samy Vellu must go

Leaders of the Gerakan Anti-Samy Vellu (GAS) said the movement will soon release a 30-minute VCD on why MIC chief S Samy Vellu must step down sooner rather than later.Thousands of copies of the VCD - in both Tamil and English - will be distributed to Indians and other members of the public within two weeks, they told a press conference in Petaling Jaya this afternoon
.However, former deputy MIC Youth leader and central working committee member V Mugilan  declined comment on the mode of distribution of the VCDs, noting the high possibility of sabotage if details are revealed.Among others, the VCD will portray Samy Vellu's failures and explain why he should relinquish his position as party president.

Earlier, former MIC central working committee member KP Samy announced that the anti-Samy Vellu gathering planned for June 13 at Dewan Hamzah in Klang had been called off for security reasons.KP Samy  alleged that he had received information that elements from Selangor MIC were out to “create problems”.
He said a new date would be fixed for the gathering in three weeks and that MIC members would be allowed to participate in the gathering.“We will not retaliate if there are attacks by MIC members, but will adopt Gandhi's principle of ahimsa (non-violence),” he said.He also dismissed claims that the gathering had to be postponed due to lack of support.

'Propaganda tool'

In a related matter, KP Samy alleged that the MIC president has been using his family-owned Tamil-language daily Tamil Nesan as a propaganda tool.“Over the past two months, the daily - headed by P Veerasamy now - has published misleading articles about the GAS movement,” he said. The newspaper has also claimed that Umno and MCA are behind the movement against Samy Vellu (left), he said.He alleged that Veerasamy, purported to be a strong supporter of Pakatan Rakyat during the 2008 general election campaign, is now dancing to Samy Vellu's tune. “It looks like they are trying to sabotage BN and create problems within the (coalition),” he added.GAS leaders had previously disclaimed any connection between the movement and BN component parties Umno and MCA.Also present at the press conference were G Kumar Amman and Mugilan's lawyer Rajasekaran Thiagarajan. On June 6, Mugilan and Kumar Amman had released a joint statement saying they would sue Tamil Nesan for reporting that GAS is an 'anti-MIC group'.
The GAS movement was launched last month to pressure Samy Vellu to step down earlier than in August or September next year. He has headed MIC since 1979.
