Selangor sultan: Not wrong to change bureaucracy

The Selangor Sultan, Tuanku Sharafuddin Idris Shah, today said that it is not wrong for any sluggish state bureaucracy blocking implementation of state policies to be 'changed'.“I hope that government bureaucracy will not be a continuing stumbling block to progress.“If need be, the state's administration system can be changed to resolve that problem,” said the sultan while opening the first sitting of the fourth term of the state legislative assembly at the state assembly building in Shah Alam.

The sultan added that state civil servants should remember that they are the first line in implementing state policies, and should cease their 'comfortable' attitude. His remarks came in the footsteps of claims that the policies of the Pakatan-led state government had been met with lacklustre support from state government and federally assigned administrative and diplomatic service (PTD) officials, many of whom were mainstays in the previous BN-controlled state government. Accusations of uncooperative behaviour were said to be behind the reasons the implementation of some state level initiatives were reportedly stalled.

Right state policies

The ruler also reminded state assemblypersons to behave themselves as befitting their position and role as representatives and leaders looked up to by the people.Sultan Sharafuddin also praised the government of Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim for steering the state into a stronger economic position.

“It is sufficient to give hope and indications that policies implemented were the right ones,” said the sultan.
He cited that the state currently contributes 21 percent of the Malaysian national GDP.The sultan also hailed the increase of the number of high-tech projects being implemented in the state, 325 of which, costing up to RM10.64 billion, are planned for this year, an increase of 47 projects from last year.
