Mother of dead teen suspects cover up

KAPAR: Sixteen-year-old R Kishornath died last Saturday after purportedly falling ill during a camping trip organised by a welfare home at a waterfall in Hulu Selangor. The cause of his death was stated as leptospirosis but his mother, S Shanti, wants the authorities to conduct a thorough probe.According to a report in Makkal Osai today, the 36-year-old kindergarden teacher discovered bruises on her son's body, and suspects that he could have been assaulted.Kishornath was sent to the welfare home, Institute Kemahiran Serendah, in April after his parents separated.

Shanti was also upset that she was only notified of her son's condition at 7am on the day he died despite Kishornath having been admitted on Dec 4.The teacher said a staff nurse had informed her that Kishornath was in critical condition."I feel sad that the institute hid the information about my son's condition for so many days. The least they could have done was tell me that he was warded,” she said.Shanti also refused to believe that her son died due to rat urine poisoning and wanted the authorities to explain the injuries on Kishornath's head and neck.

"I suspect that the institute and hospital are covering up something. I am pleading with the police to investigate the matter,” she said.Meanwhile, Kapar MP S Manikavasagam said he was disappointed with the police for dragging their feet on this case.“The boy's mother made a police report (in Klang) last Saturday and until now, the police have not recorded her statement. Why is the police being biased?” he told FMT.

The PKR leader also believes that something was amiss with regards to Kishornath's death, and slammed the institute for not informing Shanti of her son's condition earlier."Even though the victim was sent to the institute due to a court order, the parents still have a right to know about his condition,” he said.A Klang police spokesperson said the case has been transferred to the Kuala Kubu Baru district police headquarters, and investigations are ongoing.
