Samy: Protector Najib will save us from racist parasites

KUALA LUMPUR: MIC president S Samy Vellu has proposed a simple method to deal with racist individuals – ignore them. The veteran politician also expressed much faith in Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak and his 1Malaysia concept to shield Malaysians from such “parasites”.“Normally, parasites will be exterminated once they are identified, but in this case, since this kind of parasites are very rare, we can opt to ignore them as they will not pose a major threat to society.“They are what we call the minority parasites. It is just the views of one individual,” he said.

Samy Vellu was responding to a report which claimed that National Civics Bureau (BTN) deputy director Hamim Husin had allegedly used derogatory terms to refer to the Chinese and Indians.During a closed-door meeting with Puteri Umno delegates, Hanim had purportedly described the Chinese as “si sepet mata” (slitty eyes) and Indians as “kaki botol” (alcoholics).However, Samy Vellu conceded that since Hanim was a senior government officer, it rendered the issue serious.But, he added, it should not be assumed that his views reflected the government’s stand.

'No room for bigots'

Said Samy Vellu: “We have protection against these parasites in the form of the prime minister and his 1Malaysia concept.”He noted that MIC fully supports the concept, which has been widely accepted by all Malaysians, including the Indian community.“The 1Malaysia concept has strengthened our resolve to maintain unity to ensure peace and stability in the country.“There is definitely no room for bigots in this country, and certainly they are not part of 1Malaysia. They must be isolated so that their species will not mutate,” he said.

Yesterday, MCA and Gerakan leaders called for swift action against Hanim, including the possibility of the police investigating the matter.They also lamented that such statements would lend a blow to the 1Malaysia concept.
