“As an animal lover myself, I feel the officers' decision to kill the dogs is nothing short of disgusting,”said Sivanesan.He added that the reasons given by the officers were unacceptable as there was no veterinarian present to check on the dogs before putting them to sleep.“The officers said the dogs were put to sleep as they have become aggressive and started attacking the goats, ducks and chickens at a nearby farm. However, there was no veterinarian present to actually assess the animals, whether they were beyond redemption or not.
“I believe when the dogs were caught, they were hungry and helpless, making them an easy target for the officers to kill,” Sivanesan said.On Sept 18, the nine dogs consisting of six Rottweilers, two Dalmations and a bulldog were put to sleep using lethal tranquillisers at the poultry farm in Sungai Gadung, believed to be the scene of the murder.The officers entered the farm at 8.15am and left about two hours later, with the carcasses of the dogs loaded in a pick-up lorry.
Sivanesan said if the district officers had mentioned the existence of the dogs to the public earlier, many animals lovers including himself would have come forward to take them away.“They could have at least informed the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and the latter would have come forward to claim the dogs.“I urge all animal lovers in Malaysia to come forward and lodge police reports against the officers for such a disgusting act,” he added.
