AG orders further probe on Sosilawati’s murder

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 22 — Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail has demanded that the police conduct further investigations into the murder of cosmetics millionaire Datuk Sosilawati Lawiya and three others before the his office takes any action. It is understood that Abdul Gani had returned the investigation papers to the police, saying that there were many issues relating to the murder which needed further investigation.
The AG’s Chamber’s head of prosecution Tun Abd Majid Hamzah, who confirmed that the investigation papers were submitted yesterday, said the AG had also asked the police to examine other cases which were said to be connected to the suspects.“The Attorney-General found that many issues needed further and deeper investigation. He had given certain instructions for the police to carry out.“The Attorney-General has also asked police to investigate cases which are said to be linked with suspects of this case. Investigation papers were returned to the police on the same day,” he said in a statement today.

Sosilawati, 47; her driver Kamaruddin Shamsuddin, 44; lawyer Ahmad Kamil Abdul Karim, 32; and CIMB Bank officer Noorhisham Mohammad, 38, went missing on August 30 after they had gone to Banting, Selangor over a land deal.Police later discovered that the four had been killed, their bodies burnt and the ashes thrown into rivers near Ladang Gadong, Tanjung Sepat, near Banting.Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein gave his assurance yesterday that a complete report of the murders would be completed in two weeks’ time.

Hishammuddin said that the police were now waiting for DNA lab reports which would take some time to complete.Pakatan Rakyat (PR) lawmakers, however, remain unconvinced, and have said that Sosilawati’s murder probe will be raised in the next Parliament sitting on October 11.DAP leader Lim Kit Siang said yesterday that he intends to rake Hishammuddin over the coals for the way the police are probing the gruesome murders. The opposition veteran claimed the crime has hurt Malaysia’s investor confidence globally and caused public confidence in the authorities to plunge further.A total of eight suspects have been arrested in connection to the murder case, and the remand order for the suspects has been extended recently
