KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 11, 2011): The National Blood Bank has appealed for 400 to 500 units of blood, particularly of the A and O types, to meet the demand in hospitals in the Klang Valley. The blood was required to meet the demand in the post-Chinese New Year period and during the school holidays next month, it said in a statement.
"The blood was most required for treatment of cases such as organ transplants and for patients suffering from thalassaemia, haemophilia and dengue haemorrhagic fever," it added. The statement said the bank would operate between 8am and 4pm on the public holiday on Tuesday in conjunction with Prophet Muhammad's birthday. Its extended operating hours on other weekdays would be from 7.30am to 8pm and on Saturdays, up to 4pm, it added.
For enquiries, call the blood bank at 03-2695 5557 or 03-2695 5558.
