KUALA LUMPUR, 10 JANUARY, 2011: Police have no objection if the family of M. Krishnan, said to have died while in police custody last Friday, wishes for a second post-mortem to be conducted on him.
Bukit Aman Prosecution/Legal Division chief assistant director, SAC Razali Basri, said for any case of death while in police custody, a court order, however, must first be obtained for a post-mortem to be conducted on the deceased.
"And any cost involved must be borne by the family of the deceased," he said in a statement posted on the Malaysian police Facebook page today.
Razali made the statement after Krishnan's family and their representatives met him over the matter at the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman, here.
Also present at the meeting was federal police administration assistant director (Public Relations), ACP Rasdi Ramli.
Krishnan's family came to Bukit Aman at about 3pm with a memorandum on the matter and to get police approval for a second autopsy on the deceased.
Krishnan, 37, a wireman, was arrested in Taman Miharja, Cheras and remanded for four days over an alleged drug offence.
The post-mortem report attributed Krishnan's death to ulcer and the case was classified as sudden death.
