KUALA LUMPUR -- A number of 'incentives' for
Indian students at Higher Learning Institutions announced by Prime Minister
Najib Tun Razak, received a round of applause.Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's
Department, S.K Devamany said the Prime Minister's announce was filled with the
1Malaysia inspiration."This is a good indication that the government
under Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak understood the sentiments of all races. It
is also in line with the 1Malaysia aspiration and culture," he told Bernama when
contacted here yesterday.
He added that the 'incentives' announced by Najib
would further inspire Indian students to focus and excel in their studies.
Najib said the government through the Higher
Education Ministry would restructure the semester schedule of public
universities so that Indian students can go home and celebrate Deepavali,
Yayasan 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scholarships to Indian graduates who
obtained first class honours to further their studies at Masters and PhD
level.Another announcement was to address the predicament faced by
students who are vegetarian, since the Prime Minister said the Ministry of
Higher Education would ensure that appropriate vegetarian food be made available
at universities in the future.
Najib also announced that the public universities
would be providing buses to transport Indian students to temples on Friday

president D. Mahaganapathy said the move showed that the Prime Minister always
had the people at heart."He is always willing to listen to the views and
needs of the people just like what he had promised when introducing the
1Malaysia concept," he said.Meanwhile, Malaysia Indian Youth Club (MIYC)
president A. Rajaretinam said the scholarship offered through the Yayasan
1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) should be extended to estate and rural students
who excelled in their studies
